However, these are only the basic specs that the company provides on Amazon. Is it living up to its sales claims? Let’s take each feature and analyze it in part.

First of all, you should know by now that the 1,700 peak amps do not mean much in our case, so leave this feature aside. Speaking from experience, the 425 cranking amps are enough to jump start your car at the first attempt, the manufacturer claiming that the jump starter can perform for a maximum of 20 times before the PROFORMER battery actually needs a recharge.

The hot jaw clamps are known to be able to bite through rust and dirt quite effortlessly, so you don’t actually need to put your life at risk by continuously attempting to attach them to the engine. Also, the 68’’ AWG welding cables are long enough so as to render the entire jump starting process easy to successfully carry out.


Should You Make the Jump to a Compact Jump Starter?

Before providing an answer to this question, let’s quickly recap what you have learned today:

Building upon these arguments, I would like to end this article by saying that most jump starters that I have covered have lithium-based batteries. Some mobile manufacturers also implement this type of batteries into their own phones since its advantages largely outweigh the disadvantages. Let’s have a quick look at them:

Advantages:

  • High-energy density – jump starters need to operate long between charges and still consume a lot of power. This is why they need batteries with a much higher energy density.
  • Variety of types available – there are no identical jump starters out there. Surely, they all do the same thing in essence, but the actual consumer needs are where the resemblance ends, so producers must adapt, which is why the variety of lithium-based batteries comes in very handy.
  • No need to be primed – one big disadvantage of other types of batteries is that they need to be “set up” prior to their being used. Lithium-based batteries do not need any kind of initial setup, and are ready to use right away.

Disadvantages:

Unfortunately, lithium batteries have their own disadvantages, but are very little in number. They are as follows:

  • Self-discharge: All lithium batteries lose their charge over time. Even though we’re talking about a considerable amount of time until the battery actually completely manages to self-discharge, it is still a major issue that does not have any fix.
  • Price: Lithium batteries are top-notch, and this brings with it a big price tag for producers and consumers alike. We’re usually talking about 40% higher prices than other types of batteries.
  • Requires protection: You might already know that lithium batteries mustn’t be completely discharged, as it contributes to their breaking down. Most manufacturers have already implemented safety measures to counter this, but it implies special and expensive circuitry being implemented.

Another thing that I would like to mention is that hot jaws, which are usually found with “traditional” jump starters, are indeed better than the smaller ones, usually found with those 3-in-1 models, since they make better contact with the engine, which considerably lowers the number of times you actually attempt to revive your engine. However, this also implies a bigger cost on your side, so if you’re comfortable paying the extra just for the “better contact” benefit, you should definitely go for it. Otherwise, don’t, it’s not that big of a deal anyway.

Most definitely. I’ve cared to include only the best jump starters that are to be found on the market at the moment, and regardless of the choice that you actually end up making, you’ll be completely happy with your acquisition.
